Discovery is valuable when it turns an uncertain idea into a shared delivery decision: what to build first, what not to build, and which risks need an early answer.
Align on the outcome before the feature list
A good discovery phase connects the business outcome to the first release. It surfaces who the product is for, what they need to accomplish and what evidence will show that the release is working.
The result is a smaller, clearer scope with fewer assumptions hidden inside estimates.
Make risks visible early
A practical discovery should leave you with prioritised workflows, a technical approach, integration notes, delivery risks, an initial release plan and a clear decision about what happens next.
If the evidence says the idea needs more validation or should not proceed, that is still a useful outcome. Good discovery protects investment by making uncertainty explicit.
